Senior Real-Time Trader (Austin, TX)
We are looking for an experienced Real-Time Trader to join our clients team in Austin, TX. This role is key to optimizing trading strategies and managing client portfolios within the day-ahead and real-time electricity markets. You'll play a critical part in maximizing value for clients, particularly in managing battery storage, wind, and solar assets, and will take on a leadership role in shaping our internal tools and strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the optimization of physical and financial trading positions, focusing on battery storage, wind, and solar assets.
Execute trading strategies within day-ahead and real-time markets to capture maximum value for clients.
Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify opportunities, focusing on supply and demand dynamics, competitor strategies, and transmission constraints.
Drive the development of internal tools and operational processes to ensure business success and scalability.
Oversee asset onboarding, ISO monitoring, and compliance-related documentation.
Lead shift desk rotations, ensuring real-time management of market opportunities and risks while maintaining compliance.
Must-Have Skills:
Proven experience in short-term power trading, with a strong focus on dispatching physical assets and executing trading strategies.
Deep understanding of ERCOT business practices, nodal protocols, and NERC operating guidelines.
Strong decision-making skills in high-pressure, high-value situations.
Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and prioritize tasks effectively.
Flexibility to work within the shift rotation, including weekends and overnight shifts.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Direct experience managing battery storage, wind, or solar assets within competitive power markets.
Expertise in real-time power and ancillary services market pricing and opportunities.
Familiarity with setting up trading desks, engaging with regulatory bodies, or working with System Operators in markets like ERCOT, CAISO, and MISO.
Knowledge of Python (Pandas), SQL, and experience with risk management and post-trade analytics.
Confidence in presenting to clients and stakeholders.
